The restaurant scene does change from season to season, and after COVID a number of places have changed hands or closed completely. Nevertheless, here is a list of places worth checking out.
The tourist office website also has a list of restaurants in the area, click here for more details.
One top-tip is to look out for so-called “Night Markets”. Basically a local chateau will host a number of local food producers in the evening, throw in a local band and sell their wine “en vrac” to the guests. They are usually nice evenings, the food is usually great. The challenge: Finding out where and when they are! This link can help.
Le Bristrot du Coin

25 Place du 8 Mai
33220 Eynesse
The local bar! Opens primarily when it wants to, but usually Thursday-Sunday early evening. It has been run in one form or other by the same family for over 50 years.
Pizza van. Comes to Pessac on Saturday evening and Eynesse (next to the Petite Epicierie) on Sunday evening. Either phone ahead and place order or go there, pay and go back 20-25 minutes later.
There should be a menu on the fridge door.
Pizza van. Comes to Gensac on Tuesday evening. Have not tried, I just saw the van once in April 2022.
Sister retaurant of Palma Nova. IPA beers very expensive! Nice location next to the Dordogne. Look for blue sign posts.
Flyer on the fridge door.
Great place for a lunch. In the evening, as the sun sets, it can become hot and uncomfortable until the sun sets below the trees… so book a later slot, e.g. 8pm or later. But lovely location over-looking the Dordogne and not too far away to drive.
Top Tip! Combine lunch with a morning Kayak – Do the 10 o’clock 2-hour trip, arrive back in Pessac at 12:30 and lunch at 13:00 – remember to book your table.

Beautiful location, amazing view plus great food. Romantic location. Price range 50-70 per person for three courses + wine & cocktail. Just on the otherside of Gensac.
Chateau Destinée

21 Route de Lamothe

Beautiful location, amazing view of the Dordogne BUT… there is a catch, they are only open for weddings in the summer. Only in Winter are they open for Brunch, which is well worth it.
The restaurant of a reasonable hotel. Good for winter. Totally reasonable.

Small and cozy, so best to reserve. Good pizzas.
Excellent food. Small portions which are basically shared so everyone can try a bit of each. Not so cheap, but no one complains.

le Bourg Pessac Sur Dordogne
33890 Pessac
Newly opened in 2021. Very nice location overlooking the Dordogne at Pessac sur Dordogne. Great for winter, spring, autumn and cooler summer days, but when very hot, I would personally avoid as the setting sun shines directly in.
La Taverne du Belvédère

Juillac
L’Ardoise Restaurant

At the time of writing, not yet been. Expensive but apparently very good. Please let me know what you think!
A little further away, but totally do-able. Reserve a table via their website. Certainly pricy yet beautiful views over the prestine St. Emilion vineyards, including the world-famous £8000 a bottle Chateau Petrus just in the distance.
