Renovations Timeline
When the house was first purchased, of course I had plans for what to renovate.
Like all good plans, they change from the first day. Over the years we have had to do far more that we expected. We learned a lot in the process. One thing is for sure, she will keep revealing surprises, after all she is old.
2019
En-Suite Bathroom
The ensuite was the first cosmetic but also necessary improvement.
Garage Roof
The first essential fix.
Collapsing Fireplace
The fireplace was collapsing into the cellar. Our first emergency fix.

Rebuilding Collapsed Gite Wall
The Gite wall had already collapsed prior to purchase. It needed to be rebuilt.
Electrics
The electrical issues identified during the purchase process needed to be fixed.
Decorating the Ensuite Bedroom
This bedroom needed decorating after the ensuit had been installed and also to remove the brown walls.
Widening the Chimney
The chimney needed widening so we could install a wood-burner for winter.
Rain Water Drainage
It rains a lot in winter and there were issues so this rainwater needed to be managed.
House Roof
The big one. The whole of the roof needed replacing.
Decorating Downstairs Bedroom
This was a dark uncomfortable room so was in need of attention.
Decorating the Master Bedroom
This bedroom had wallpaper that needed to be removed due to humidity.
Decorating Front 1st Floor Hall
This space was a mess. Plenty of plaster needed.
2021
Attic
Insulation of the walls and laying new flooring as well as a new bathroom.
Barn Floor
After being dug up for the rainwater, it was decided to concrete the floor.
Railings
The rails on the balcony entrance and window guards needed attention.
Decorating the 1st Floor Rear Bedroom
This bedroom was not too bad. We justed wanted to remove the blue band and water damage.
Gite Roof
Renovating the Gite roof proved to be the toughest “surprise” of all.
Shutter Hinges
17 hinges were broken, all needing the stone removing and resetting.
Atelier Waste Pipes
When the main house roof was fixed, we then noticed the toilet in the Atelier had issues.
Cellar Post
The stone on which the main central pillar was supported, was collapsing.
Wall, Gate & Pillars
The entrance gate needed widening and the wall rescuing.
Chalet
She has been painted, and had the roof and flooring replaced.
Replacing Rear Lintel
The lintel above the 1st floor rear hallway window had a dangerous crack.
Decorating the 1st Floor Rear Hall
This space was in need of plastering. It also had to have water damage removed and replastered.

2022

Gite
It remained open to the elements for more than six months resulting in the original internal walls growing mould and rotting.
Decorating the Bathroom
The master bathroom was affected by the installation of the pipes for the attic ensuite.
Decorating the Staircase
The staircase had taken a beating after the attic was renovated.
Side Entrance
Was a real mess and needed tidying.
Waste pipes to the Fosse
Another crushed pipe.
Driveway and Paths
After all the drainpipe and waste pipe works the paths and driveway were in poor condition.
Front Wall
The front wall was basically a pile of rubble in the garden and the front was simply a wild hedge.
Garden Well
The new-look drive and gravel made the well look very sad and the wood was rotten.
Decorating the Living Room
The previous owners smoked and the walls had nicotine stains. The floor around the fireplace was also in need of attention.
