The WiFi Fails
The house accesses the Internet via a 4G+ Mobile network, basically the same way your mobile accesses the internet. The receiver for this is also the router, the router itself creates the WiFi network “ALTICE-767D”.
However, this network does not reach the entire house and certainly not the gardens, it is however stable.
To reach the gardens we tried to install a second network, this has five extenders, from the company Deco. This is the network “Magnolia”. Despite best efforts, it is not hugely stable but when it works, it reaches well into the garden. The main “Deco” is connected directly to the Router, via an ethernet cable.
Should “Magnolia” not be working, check the light on top of the Deco units. If they are red, unplug, wait 10 seconds and plug back in. If that fails, then it is likely that the main deco in the attic has an issue. Just unplug the power, wait 10 seconds and try again.
Worst case scenario, unplug all the deco units and the router from power. Then restart the router, wait until is it up and running, then start the deco units.
It is also possible for me to restart the main Deco remotely via my own iPhone and the Deco App.
One last note: We have 200Gb limit per month, starting on the 7th of each month. Once this runs out, the speed drops to <1Mbs, basically making the Internet unusable. It is then necessary to contact the provider and purchase an extra 50Gb.
The router and deco units can be found here:
Description | Location | Comment |
Main Deco | Attic, above the bed in the attic.
1st Floor | On the sideboard, front 1st floor hallway
Living Room | On the floor by the window
Side Entrance | Side entrance, on the shelf
Atelier | In the storage room, on top of the sideboard | Unplugged in winter |
This is the router, if the router is unplugged and plugged-in again, these are the lights that will come on.
This is one of the Deco units. Note the light on the top is white, this indicates it is working. If it flashes red, then it has an issue – just unplug. If all else fails, unplug the main Deco in the attic.
