The walls of the front hallway on the 1st floor were in a dreadful state. They needed a lot of plastering. The wooden floorboards in this area had also had, at some point, a lot of attention from wood-boring beetles. The floorboards were treated and then oiled. At the time of writing, there is no evidence of beetles, although their one-time presence is occasionally rediscovered as chips of surface wood come away.
