There are several uses of the shutters. For people not used to them, Brits above all, they will help you be more comfortable in the house. The are the key to temperature control, especially in the Summer.

They

1. Keep the Sun from shining directy in and warming the interior of the house
2. Make the rooms dark at night
3. Provide extra insulation in the colder months

Usefully, they can be opened and secured – please do this otherwise wind will bang them open and closed.

Partially Closing the Shutters in Summer

You can also have them almost closed, at an angle using the metal hooks. This allows light into the room, yet keeps direct sunlight out.

When you close the shutters, most of them allow you to twist and hook the handle so that light comes in and wind does not open them.

Security

There is also one final use for them: Security. When the house is unoccupied the shutters are closed and locked with the metal bars with clips in place.

Over the years, we have also seen that not all metal bars fit well. So, as a basic rule the security clip is only placed on the RIGHT of the bar. When removed, the security clip is placed back on the right. That way, when the bar is put back into its slots, we know which way the bar fits bests.

Always put the clip on the RIGHT when securing but also replace on the right when the bar is removed and stored. That way it is easier to replace the bar when closing up the house.
