The Garden

The Original Garden

When the house was purchased the original garden was fully overgrown. The trees had not been pollarded for many years and trees had started to get out of control, especially whysteria and hazel.

Slowly Clearing the Garden

A little obsessed with walls, the first area to get attention was the long wall and the removal of the ivy. Then it was hazel and wysteria that was growing by the side-entrace and of course the area in front of the Gite. It took several years, but we got there in the end.

Especially with the help of Michel and his tractor.

Tree Surgery

With the exception of the Magnolia, all the trees receive a regular pollarding or trim. An old pear tree and two old conifers had to be removed as they had started turning brown.

It was the first time that this was done, back in 2019, that we saw the real space in the garden.

Removing the Yucca

Although quite impressive, the Yucca were ugly and had terrible spikes. However, getting rid of them is extremely difficult due to the nature of their roots.

And indeed they keep coming back.
