The Velux Window
When the roof was renovated, we discovered that the original architecture had a window at the top of the stairs. This actually makes sense. The Parthenon in Rome, which has stood for 2000 years also has a hole at the top in the centre of the building. This allows hot air to escape, providing circulation and ventilation.
So, on hot days, the velux is opened early in the morning to allow heat to escape. You can literally feel the draft as soon as it is opened.
This can of course also be done at the end of the day so it has all night to work its magic.
In Case of Rain
The velux should sense when it rains and should close automatically. However, to be safe, always close it when not needed, or when leaving the house.
Where is the Controller?
To open and close the velux, the controller is kept in a drawer in this sideboard.
What does it Look Like?
The controller looks like this.
